Casa San José was founded in 2013 by Sister Janice Vanderneck, who dedicated her life to serving immigrant communities. With a vision of creating a welcoming space for Pittsburgh’s growing Latino population, she established Casa San José to provide essential services, advocacy, and support.

In 2014, Casa San José evolved into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with an independent board, strengthening its ability to fulfill its mission. In 2018, Monica Ruiz became the Executive Director, and under her leadership, the organization experienced exponential growth. Today, Casa San José operates with a dedicated team of 35 staff members and over 100 active volunteers, continuing its mission to empower and uplift the Latino community.
