Host Bio: “Black Bisexual Icon”, Keivon “Harly” Brown
Between 2016-2021, Keivon joined the Pittsburgh Poetry Collective(PPC) first as a member at large and then as vice-president/ treasurer. During that time, Keivon helped to initiate and implement a top-down structural management approach to program management which included an expanded organizational budget. Keivon showed excellent organizational management as a bank signatory and prepared financial reports for board meetings. During his tenure, the organization website went through a complete redesign for which all members produced original content outlining the history, programs, and future of the PPC. Keivon was a reliable producer, planner, and bout manager for the Steel City Slam which cannot operate without door, score, time, emcee, and recordkeeping.
Outside of the PPC, Keivon performed at different venues throughout the city of Pittsburgh, attended artist workshops, and coached other artists. Keivon’s inspirations for his art are PRINCE, Jay-Z, Edgar Allen Poe, and Angela Davis. Keivon credits his time in the social work field, and the books his father gave him to read as a teenager for his “conscious mind” and ability to be empathic. Keivon also credits his mother (Karen Brown) for his professional acumen and ability to focus. Keivon finally credits his birth mother (Candice Monroe) for being okay with being emotionally vulnerable.
